In order to properly preserve the severed penis, PGS Quang recommends that as soon as the severed penis is removed, it must be washed with physiological saline; Wrap damp gauze soaked in physiological saline and put it in a plastic bag. Then put it in the ice box. The cut part of the penis should not be placed directly in the freezer.

The head near the wound on the patient’s body should be bandaged to stop the bleeding. After that, immediately transfer the patient and the severed penis to specialized medical facilities for reattachment.

The principle of initial treatment is to keep it in a cold environment and respect the “golden time” so that the patient can perform emergency and successful surgery. Then quickly bring the patient along with the severed part to the hospital. Time as fast as possible, at least 6 hours.

In particular, Assoc. Prof. Quang emphasized that it is necessary to avoid the preserved severed limb from coming into contact with the “unsub” because there are many cases where the severed part is thrown into the pond. Even after surgery, it is necessary to protect the patient from contact with the cutter because in some cases after successful surgery, the previous “unsub” still attacked the newly connected penis.
