The two main objectives of the visit are to find a temporary and short-term agreement for the supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and to accelerate the transition from conventional gas to green hydrogen.

According to Habeck, in this process, Qatar and the UAE are of “central importance”. Qatar is currently one of the world’s largest exporters of liquefied natural gas (LNG).

Germany has set a goal of almost ending Russian oil imports by the end of the year, but saying no to Russian gas will take longer.

Ahead of the visit, Minister Habeck warned that gas supplies are still not fully guaranteed and that if deliveries from Russia are cut off, Germany will not have enough gas to heat all homes and homes. like keeping the industry running.

Few countries are as dependent on Russian energy imports as Germany. Europe’s leading economy imports about 55% of its natural gas from Russia.

Earlier this month, Mr. Habeck also visited Norway (an important gas exporter) and the US (LNG supplier).

The head of the German economic sector expressed confidence that discussions are underway with Norway, the US, Canada and Qatar that will help bring more liquefied gas to Europe and Germany.

Currently, Germany and Norway have agreed to study the possibility of building a hydrogen pipeline between the two countries.
