Germany re-investigate the knife attack on the train in 2021 in the direction of terrorism

The suspect, a 27-year-old Syrian man, is accused of carrying out a sudden and unprovoked attack on a high-speed train between the cities of Regensburg and Nuremberg in Bavaria on November 6, 2021. Subject was initially admitted to psychiatric care following an assessment that found him to be schizophrenic and not criminally responsible for his actions.

However, prosecutors in Munich said that the subject was responsible at the time of the crime, acting because of radical Islamic ideology. The case was transferred to the counter-terrorism unit of the Bavaira state police after investigators found extremist propaganda videos and extremist content on the subject’s Facebook account. Prosecutors also said some of the victims were seriously injured and charged him with attempted murder and causing serious injury.
