Long Thanh Airport must review daily progress
The Minister of Transportation asked the Project Management Agency to meet daily to review progress with contractors.
To promote project component 3 (including critical works such as passenger terminals, aviation infrastructure at Long Thanh airport), Minister of Transport Nguyen Van The asked the Project Management Agency to hold daily level meetings with contractors; Project managers meet weekly to review project progress.
Simultaneously, the Director General of Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV – investor) should meet to review project progress every two weeks to urge progress, update and send reports to the Ministry.
ACV is required to direct domestic and foreign consulting contractors to concentrate all their human resources to accelerate design progress, weekly meetings to review progress. ACV worked closely with the Long Thanh District People’s Committee to be able to accept locations according to priority areas, minimizing the impact on project progress.

With the second component project, namely aviation management work, the Ministry of Transportation assessed that the selection of contractors for this consultation package was delayed by 2 months from schedule. Therefore, the Ministry asks the investor, Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation, to report weekly detailed progress, propose solutions to accelerate progress, ensure the start of the foundation of aviation management projects no later than October this year, synchronously complete all projects by December 2024.
For other work items, the Ministry of Transportation asks the Project Management Agency to review and rebuild the overall progress and detailed items, where bad weather factors are anticipated, and the overall solution needs to be studied to shorten the progress of the items.
The Long Thanh International Airport construction project was approved by the Government in phase 1 with a total investment of nearly 4.6 billion USD, including 4 component projects, which are seeking to be put into operation by early 2025.
However, after a year, when the fencing and mine work was basically complete, the ground leveling had not been done, putting project progress at risk of being delayed. Government leaders have continued to make inspection visits in the past two months to urge and direct.
According to the Ministry of Transportation, currently component 1, 2, 4 projects are hampered by mechanisms and policies, and there are still many items that do not meet the requirements, thus potentially delaying project progress.
“Recently, many related units have not been aware of this problem, so the Prime Minister criticized it very strongly. The ministry asked the ACV to address the shortfall,” said Deputy Transport Minister Le Anh Tuan.
