Malaysian Prime Minister pays official visit to Vietnam

HanoiPrime Minister Pham Minh Chinh this morning welcomed and held talks with Malaysian Prime Minister Dato Sri Ismail Sabri bin Yaakob on his first official visit to Vietnam.

Welcoming Ceremony Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh chaired at the Presidential Palace in Hanoi. After the welcoming ceremony, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh held talks with Prime Minister Yaakob at government headquarters.

Pak Yaakob’s visit with senior officials on March 20-21 is the Malaysian Prime Minister’s first visit to Vietnam since taking office in August 2021.

Mr Yaakob’s visit took place within the framework of the strategic partnership between Vietnam and Malaysia, which has reached its first seven-year journey and looks forward to the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2023.

The two countries are implementing a Program of Action to implement the Strategic Partnership for the period 2021-2025, which was approved at the 6th meeting of the Vietnam-Malaysia Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation Committee.JCM 6) November 2021.

Defense and security cooperation between the two sides continues to be encouraged. Both sides increased the exchange of information related to the prevention and eradication of terrorism, cybercrimes, and transnational crimes. In 2015, the two sides signed a cooperation agreement in the prevention and eradication of transnational crime.

Malaysia is currently Vietnam’s second largest trading partner in ASEAN and ninth in the world. Vietnam is Malaysia’s third largest trading partner in ASEAN. Two-way trade turnover will reach 12.5 billion USD in 2021, up 25.3% over the same period in 2020.

Vietnam has 21 valid investment projects to Malaysia with a total registered capital of 853 million USD, ranking 9th out of 78 countries and regions investing abroad. Currently, there are more than 1,000 Vietnamese international students studying in Malaysia.
