Two sisters Ngo Thi Hien Linh (14 years old) and Ngo Tuan Anh (11 years old), living in Dai Yen village, Thach My commune, Loc Ha district, Ha Tinh province are in a very sad situation. The children’s father, Ngo Duc Cong (SN 1980), had an accident at work, was bedridden, and had no money for medical treatment.

Mr. Cong was born into a poor family in Dai Yen village, Thach My commune. When he was young, due to his family’s difficult circumstances, he had to go to bed, work for other people’s houses to earn money to go in and out of the fields. Although he was at school age, he had to drop out of school midway to work as a hired hand to help his mother raise his disabled sister.

At home, hardships and difficulties, work is precarious, so Mr. Cong has to leave his hometown to go to the South to work as a worker. In 2007, he fell in love and married Ms. Nguyen Thi H. (from Quang Tri). The two have two children together, Hien Linh and Tuan Anh.

But then the couple’s relationship cracked and lived apart for many years. In 2012, when the youngest son Tuan Anh was just 1 year old, Mr. Cong took his two children back to Ha Tinh to live and then fell into the situation of “roosters raising children”. Life is difficult and struggling, but with boundless love for his children, Mr. Cong is busy working every day, hoping that his children have enough to eat and clothe. By 2020, he and his wife divorced, ending their marriage.

Every day, he works as a bricklayer and mixes construction materials at a brick factory near his house. The work is hard and sweaty, but the economy is enough to support the children, the elderly mother and the disabled sister.

However, disaster struck his family one day in the middle of 2021, while going into the bin to clean the construction material mixer, the group of workers accidentally turned on the electricity, the grinder worked, causing Mr. seriously injured. Mr. Cong was taken to the emergency room by people in a state of severed vertebrae and spinal cord.

Lying motionless on the bed, looking at his two school-age children, he could only wipe his tears in helplessness. “When the couple’s relationship was broken, I thought that just by working hard, I would be able to have money to support the children. But I never expected disaster to fall on me, causing my children to fall into a miserable situation. I was originally healthy, but an unexpected labor accident left me paralyzed because of a ruptured marrow.

Now every month I have to spend more than 5 million money on medicine, diapers… I don’t know where to get it. The days ahead are full of difficulties, my mind is clear, but I can’t get up and take care of my children, which makes me extremely sad and helpless.”

Mr. Ngo Duc Quang (Mr. Cong’s younger brother) said: “It has been more than 5 months since he was hospitalized, but his health has not improved. The money he used to help out, as a hired worker, to raise two children, was poured into treatment. Now the last money has been exhausted, I have to borrow from relatives to take care of his medicine, but I don’t know how long it will last because everyone is in trouble.”
