Old look at the ancient village of Phuoc Tich

ColorThis quaint village is about 40 km from the city center, surrounded by the O Lau river that meanders, like a green island.

The ancient village of Phuoc Tich, also known as the land of Con Duong, was formerly the land of the Cham people until King Che Man presented Chau O and Chau Ly to the Dai Viet in 1306 as a wedding gift to Princess Huyen Tran. So, just walking around the village, visitors will find remains of Cham relics such as Quang Te Temple with ancient yoni statue, Cay Thi Temple worshiping goddess Po Nagar lying near a 500 year old Thi tree, a stone eardrum Statue statue This sand lies at the base of an ancient eagle tree by the river…

Phuoc Tich is probably the small village with the most river piers in the region. The whole village has 12 river piers representing the first 12 families who came to cultivate Con Duong’s land. Even though every house has running water, there are still people washing clothes by the river because perhaps the river is still green and because of old habits that are hard to break.

Hoang Minh Hung was a village pioneer, having stopped here after his journey with King Le Thanh Tong to conquer Champa in 1470. More than 500 years later, the villagers still retain the land where his father built his business and lives. the house is more than 100 years old.

The ancient three-compartmented houses and sacred shrines are serenely surrounded by green gardens surrounded by neatly arranged rows of teas. The scenery makes you feel like you are going back in time, where time stopped like the gentle flow of O Lau for generations. Each house has a beautiful gate so guests have to take out their cell phones to take some photos as a souvenir.

Visiting the village, visitors can easily see that everywhere there are shards of pottery and terracotta scattered on the ground, under every old house there are still household pottery such as poison (the jar does not have a typical village mouth). ), lu, dimples, om, blame it… Not strange because Phuoc Tich used to be a famous pottery village. Luxurious ruong houses were once built thanks to the affluent pottery and oil-making professions. Phuoc Tich pottery is a household item sold throughout the region. The village was also a place where the kings of the Nguyen Dynasty provided stew fields for cooking rice. Simple rustic clay pots were polished by skilled workers, so that the finest clay is called by the beautiful name “useful jade”.

Phuoc Tich used to have such a popular pottery profession, on the pier beneath a busy merchant ship, now the whole village has only one pottery workshop. The workshop is located next to an old pottery kiln opposite Lo wharf which was rebuilt by Mr Luong Thanh Hien (50 years). Pak Hien because of his destiny with pottery, after years of traveling in the country, he returned to his hometown, determined to learn, maintain, and pass on his profession.

Phuoc Tich’s traditional pottery mainly has a monotone design that no longer suits the tastes of today’s customers. Therefore, to maintain his profession, Mr. Hien must learn the experiences and technology of other pottery villages in the country and study fine arts to add new models, turning household ceramics into fine art ceramics for tourists. Coming to his workshop, visitors can not only see and shop for pottery and hear him tell stories about the village, but also touch clay and feel how to make pottery.

If you still want to see more of Phuoc Tich’s old pottery, visit the home of Mr Le Trong Dien, a 73-year-old potter this year. Under the roof of the ancient ruong house built by Pak Dien’s grandfather in 1908, the village’s simple pottery items are stored and displayed on wooden shelves by him. Each artifact has a name tag, because not everyone knows it and calls it by the proper name. What is poison, pot ang, rice bran, rice bran, sir… He doesn’t mind the guests’ questions, the more he asks, the more eager he is to explain and share. In addition to his ceramic collection, he also built a side house beside the house to display traditional pottery utensils, an earthenware kiln and a wood-fired kitchen corner with lots of old ceramic items such as lime pots, fish sauce pots. , ooh, vials…

After being filled with interesting knowledge of the ancient pottery of Phuoc Tich, visitors can continue walking behind the village to see Ha Tri lake with its green bamboo fort and towering church tower in the neighboring village of Phu Xuan. Summer comes, white lotus blooms fragrantly in Ha Tri lake. This is the white lotus variety in the Imperial Citadel of Hue that Nguyen Thi Hue, a Hue woman, who loves the village of Phuoc Tich very much wanted to bring here to be planted for the beautiful landscape and also to make lotus tea and wine.

Strolling around the village, perhaps visitors can easily see the serenity here because most of the young people go to school and work far away, in the rest of the village mostly old men, old women and children. Before leaving, don’t forget to enjoy the country cuisine in this place because the women in Phuoc Tich village are very good at cooking and baking. There are almost no restaurants in the whole village, so if you want to eat, you must book in advance with the management board of the ancient village of Phuoc Tich. It is also a unit that provides information about the village, guide services, excursions, bicycle rentals, boat rentals, pottery and cake making experiences.
