Preliminary statistics, Nam Can district has about 15,000 hectares of combined crab cultivation in shrimp plots, with a yield of 5,000-6,000 tonnes per year. Currently, most crab-cultivating areas have unusually high mortality rates.

Many people imagine that the cultivated crabs develop normally, until about 4-5 months (about to harvest) suddenly die under the square. Many other fish are weak, when removed 10-20 minutes, die, the meat is uncertain, not tasty.

Faced with the above situation, the Chair of the Ca Mau provincial People’s Committee asked the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to lead and coordinate with the Science and Technology Department, the Southern Song Hau Fisheries Research Sub-Institute, and the People’s Committee. of these areas to promptly examine, review, determine the cause and take corrective action.

In the dry season of 2021, sea crabs kept in the district also died en masse. After taking samples, the functional department determined that the crabs died from infection with the Sacculina parasite.

Ca Mau crab is a famous and delicious specialty, costing from a few hundred thousand to a million dong per kilogram, depending on the breed and the time of day.
