The value of studying abroad

Studying abroad offers opportunities for multinational cultural exchange, experiences and helps students find their identity, according to experts at the Shine with Australia seminar.

In the first number – “The key to studying in Australia in the new normal”, artist Thanh Bui – President of Education Embassy, Ms. Phoebe Tran – IELTS Face-off program host, Country Director Crimson Education and Ms. Pham Thi Cuc Ha – Founder and Director of SACE College Vietnam, Vice Chair of the Adelaide Hanoi School Board, said that the distinct value of studying abroad compared to studying at home is a rich cultural experience.

Artist Thanh Bui insists that students can study well in any country or school. Many students studying in Vietnam are still very good, there is no need to study abroad. However, he valued the experience and practical skills that everyone had accumulated more. The opportunity to access culture, live in another country will help students become more confident.

“What I learn through books, everyone can learn. But, if I learn through experience, it is a very special thing,” said artist Thanh Bui.

On the other hand, he says, Vietnamese families spoil their children too much, causing them not to know how to cook and clean their own house… However, when it comes to a completely foreign country, international students absolutely have to learn to do it. things and set a reasonable time of day. It is an experience to live and grow.

From the story of a boyfriend in Singapore who can’t cook, Phoebe Tran also said that when you study abroad, you become more mature and confident. This is because international students can learn to accept differences, rather than the assumption that women should control “housewives” is the best thing.

“You can think more deeply and altruistically when you deal with cultural differences, and how different people live together,” he adds.

Cuc Ha also emphasized that the point of view on the purpose of studying abroad is different and broader. Not only gaining knowledge, practical experience is invaluable.

With the development of technology, learning is no longer limited to one country. Students can study any country’s program online or partner, integrated with an international certificate. However, studying abroad is better than studying at home in an external experience, from the smallest thing, when living in a foreign place.

Thus, each country will have its own culture of living, learning, and working. For example in Australia, the President of the Embassy Education organization said, what people enjoy the most when they come to this country is the way people think together, work in groups, compete fairly… Unlike many In developing countries, including Vietnam, the rich-poor gap in Australia has a certain balance.

When experiencing learning and living in such an environment, students’ thinking and vision will be more open, thus, better approach, work as a team and limit negative thinking. “In Australia there is a very good thing that everyone will have the opportunity to be successful,” added Thanh Bui.

Analyzing in terms of educational philosophy, Ms. Cuc Ha shared, the theory from Ericsson educators shows that the high school graduation stage (18-22 years) is when young people enter a period of self-esteem crisis. .

So just as Ericsson has to travel a lot to gain experience, students study abroad for a rich experience. From there, you can reinvent yourself, know what kind of person you are, what you want, how to improve… to succeed at the next stage.

The founder of SACE College Vietnam shared that when he studied abroad at the age of 18, he entered a whole new society. Feeling lost and consciously searching for answers to questions about what to do in this context helps him see himself and find himself.

Through practical experience and student observations, he stressed, the journey out of the shadows of parents, schools, out of familiar society, stepping out of comfort zones is when young people find their own goals.

“Therein lies the value of studying abroad: in a crisis we must find ourselves,” he stressed.
