Trump vows to ‘take back the White House’

“With the support of everyone in this room, we will reclaim the House, the Senate. We will reclaim our country, and most importantly, in 2024, we will reclaim our beautiful White House”, former US president Donald Trump spoke to a crowd of supporters at a rally in Fort Lauderdale, Florida last weekend.

“You have a president who puts America first. I’ll be back, we’ll do better and stronger than ever,” Trump added.

At the event, he also reiterated his claim to have won the 2020 presidential election. “We won twice. We did much better the second time around, and should probably support that,” the former US president said.

After losing the election nearly two years ago, Trump has repeatedly claimed he did win, without providing evidence. The former US president has also repeatedly hinted that he will run for re-election, but has almost ruled out the possibility of choosing former Vice President Mike Pence as his running mate.

Preliminary polls on the 2024 Republican presidential nomination show Trump still wins majority support. Last year, Trump said he would easily win the Republican nomination if he ran for president in 2024.

“I thought if I ran, I would get the nomination,” Trump said on Fox Business. “Listen, I got 94-95% approval, even in the CPAC (Conservative Political Action Conference) I have 98% approval. So if I decide to run, I will get the nomination very easily. Most people say if I run, they won’t fight me.”

Trump has not officially announced his re-election bid, but has raised the possibility since President Joe Biden took office. Biden has also announced plans to run for re-election in 2024.
