Painter Phan Ke An (1923-2018), studied at Indochina Fine Arts College. He was the first to draw a portrait of President Ho Chi Minh commissioned by the late Secretary General Truong Chinh in 1948.
During this time, he composed more than 20 paintings of President Ho Chi Minh. Most of the great Vietnamese writers and artists were sketched by Phan Ke An. He is also known for his satirical paintings. Under the pseudonym Phan Kich, the artist has created many paintings with content that attacks the bad habits and vices of society. In 2001, he was awarded the State Prize for Literature and Arts.
