Blockchain cannot be ‘divine’

The Leader Talks speaker said that blockchain technology can only solve some of society’s specific problems, not a “magic wand” for all.

Opening the Leader Talks blockchain session – a series of talks in the CTO Summit 2022 program organized by VnExpress organization, Mr. Huy Nguyen, co-founder KardiaChain assuming that simply, blockchain is a similar technology WHO, cloud computing or the Internet. The most famous application of this technology is cryptocurrency, but it has also been extended to many other fields from real estate to entertainment, education, logistics … However, when applied to life, it is necessary to consider based on actual needs because not every blockchain can be immediately profitable .

No illusions about the power of blockchain

according to her Cris Duy Tran, co-founder of FAM Central and Director of the National Startup Fund, blockchain is receiving a lot of attention from the community but should avoid this “divine” technology. “Blockchain can only solve some problems in certain problems. When starting to approach the technology, users should ask the question whether blockchain is suitable to be applied to a process or the entire operation of the company. Not every blockchain application can be profitable,” notes the FAM Central co-founder.

Both speakers said blockchain needs serious research. Businesses have to build a suitable product, go through many rounds of research and manufacture the product. Currently, blockchain is not mature enough to become “instant noodles” for businesses to order and edit and use like some technologies that have evolved over the years such as AI or digital transformation kits.

“When approaching blockchain, one must remember that this technology is not a magic wand that can solve all the problems of business and society. We need time to understand the technology and listen to where it is put. Blockchain comes in. Big companies in Silicon Valley have been studying this problem for years. years and we also have to be really serious in choosing the right technology application,” said Huy.

Vietnam blockchain opportunity

Mr Cris said that in 2021, Vietnam’s blockchain has achieved great success in the global market, with many companies becoming icons in a number of fields. “It is predicted that 2022 will be a relatively attractive year both in terms of products and the market for Vietnamese blockchain. Many large companies are moving to incorporate this technology into business. I hope retail and entertainment will be the ones to do it. two industries have a lot moving fast this year,” he said.

According to Mr. Huy Nguyen, co-founder of KardiaChain, in the past, Vietnam was often laggy on the tech front because it didn’t have a prominent icon to steer clear of. But in the blockchain field, Vietnam has a lot of international products that resonate in the market. A successful company is not only meaningful to them, but also an inspiration and motivation for the whole society to rise up.

However, the Leader Talks speaker said that the emergence of too many blockchain companies in a short period of time is not necessarily a good sign for Vietnam. The fact that there are too many projects while the supply of personnel is limited will cause the product to lose its integrity and quality. When going to the international market, these products can affect the entire Vietnamese blockchain industry.

According to Mr. Huy Nguyen, human resources in the field of technology are never enough, in new fields such as blockchain, it is even rarer. “If according to the formula that a country needs 1% of the population to develop a new industry, Vietnam needs at least one million workers. However, in reality, it can only meet 1-2% of the market demand. Fortunately, we have seen the problem, soon there is a training program, popularization of blockchain. Compared to the world, Vietnam is not behind, even ahead of some regions,” said Mr. Huy.

Barriers to blockchain development

According to the co-founder of KardiaChain, apart from personnel issues, legal corridors, the big obstacle for blockchain to infiltrate every corner of life is that the technology is too expensive.

Mr Huy said that many companies and technology leaders have seen the potential of blockchain, putting this technology into business could save hundreds of billions of dong. But in the end, they still couldn’t do it because the investment cost for blockchain was too big.

“One of the reasons why the prices of blockchain-related products are so high is because it is a new industry. The problem of staff alone is very expensive, causing the output to be too expensive. Therefore, investment in human resources is one of the keys. problem that needs to be solved. Maybe in about 3-5 years time, the cost of blockchain products will be cheaper and businesses more accessible,” said Mr. Huy.

According to experts, in order to optimize costs, businesses can choose a blockchain network that suits their needs. Large companies can use “private blockchains” (internal blockchain networks) to store data, but the costs will be high. Meanwhile, there are still “public blockchains” that allow free use, suitable for small businesses, startups. Others strike a balance between security and cost by using a “hybrid blockchain”.

According to Mr. Huy Nguyen, today’s users have many choices in accessing new technology. But the democratization of blockchain in the future is very important. “There are many ways to cheapen technology, for example Kardiachain does not collect money from users but seeks profit by presenting other applications similar to Android and iOS models. The goal of companies like KardiaChain When I return to Vietnam, I want to be able to build a national blockchain network so that all Vietnamese businesses can use it cheaply. So in the future, blockchain will certainly be more accessible to everyone while shopping. costs are reduced significantly,” said Mr. Hey.
