Plane Boeing 737 of China Eastern Airlines departing from Kunming city (capital of Yunnan province) to Guangzhou city (capital of Guangdong province) lost contact while flying over Wuzhou city in Guangxi province. At the time of the accident, there were 132 people on board, including 123 passengers and 9 crew members.

According to some sources, the plane appeared to have made a sudden descent before crashing. The accident is considered China’s worst aviation disaster in nearly 10 years.

Shares of Boeing and its component suppliers to the US aircraft maker all fell sharply following news related to the China Eastern Airlines plane crash involving a Boeing 737- 800. Boeing said it is collecting information to determine the cause of the accident.

Chinese President Xi Jinping also ordered an investigation to be quickly opened to determine the cause of the accident as well as to strengthen the security of civil aviation.
