Smartphone sales in China plummeted

On March 21, the China Academy of Information and Communication Technology (CAICT) reported that sales sell smartphones in China fell 31.8% year-on-year to 14.5 million units.

According to CAICT, smartphone sales have fallen from about 21.3 million handsets in February 2021 and 32.4 million in January 2022.

Market observers say that handset brands are currently facing production problems due to a global chip shortage that shows no sign of ending.

A combination of factors including demand miscalculation, unexpected factory closures, and US-China tensions have led some auto companies to report chip supply problems. That shortfall has since spread to a variety of chips and all types of hardware, including smartphones.

Delayed upgrades from consumers also slowed sales in China.

“Ongoing component shortages are affecting the shipments of all phone manufacturers. Second, the average smartphone replacement cycle in China is getting longer and longer,” the company said. Senior analyst Ivan Lam commented.

Earlier, in an analysis, expert Ivan Lam also explained that the decline of the Chinese phone market is due to the fact that smartphone design between brands has also become more homogeneous, especially in terms of hardware. hard, this does not motivate consumers to upgrade. China also faces a complex economic environment in which fuel exports grow and domestic spending remains weak.
