Telegram is banned by Brazil for omitting emails
If an important email is missed out of the hundreds, if not thousands, of unread emails in the Inbox, not only an individual but possibly the whole company will be affected. This is exactly what happened recently with messaging apps Telegram in Brazil.
Last Friday, Brazil’s supreme judge Alexandre de Moraes asked Apple and Google to help block Telegram in the country on charges of spreading fake news. However, in a new statement from Telegram founder and CEO Pavel Durov, the reason for this ban is because the company did not respond to a court request to remove an account.
According to CEO Durov, Telegram decided to use a dedicated email for such requests, but perhaps the Brazilian court did not know about that and sent the request to the general email address. Therefore, Telegram ignored the request because it did not receive this email and ended up receiving a ban because it was considered as contempt of the court. Telegram’s CEO also said that the company has now found the aforementioned Brazilian court email and is trying to rectify the situation.
According to a report from the New York Times, Telegram was investigated by Brazil for allegedly sharing fake news about the country’s politicians. This is also the reason supreme judge Alexandre de Moraes sent an email asking Telegram to remove some accounts and groups that spread fake news on this platform.
Telegram CEO’s explanation seems to have been approved by the Brazilian court when only 2 days after banning this application, the ban was lifted. Telegram has also made a request to remove accounts related to the distribution of information about the country’s politicians.
