The Galaxy A33 5G is a pretty big update over last year’s Galaxy A32, which includes a new design and new internal hardware that shows Samsung is indeed looking to reformulate this low-cost mid-range phone.

This gives the Galaxy A33 5G an increase in performance, but it also entails an increase in price. So is it a worthy price?

Design quality

Galaxy A33 5G is refreshed in design compared to its predecessor. The design has now changed to resemble the Galaxy A53 5G in the higher segment, making many people confused when looking at them. The difference is that the Galaxy A33 5G has a matte frame, while the Galaxy A53 5G has a glossy frame.

One shortcoming of this phone is that it doesn’t have a 3.5mm headphone jack, which means there’s no longer support for older wired headphones, but comes with stereo speakers that are said to be able to output Dolby Atmos sound .

The screen design has a waterdrop notch at the top and the chin is a bit thick at the bottom. Basically, it has the same front design as the Galaxy A32. However, a premium addition to the device is IP67 protection certification.

Screen

The Galaxy A33 5G has an Infinity-U screen, which is a waterdrop notch on a 6.4-inch display size. Notably, this is an AMOLED screen with Full HD resolution and has a refresh rate of 90 Hz. The screen upgrade could explain the price increase over previous versions of this phone, and first impressions suggest it’s clearly a worthwhile option.

For all it has to offer, it’s a smartphone with a great display that can deliver content with plenty of color and detail, boosted by a 90 Hz refresh rate that smooths everything out.

Hardware and performance

Galaxy A33 5G is equipped with new 5nm Exynos 1280 chip from Samsung, combining 6 GB RAM and 128 GB internal memory, with the ability to expand to 1 TB via microSD card slot as well as support virtual RAM up to 6 GB. So the phone has enough capacity to handle additional content like movies or music.

Of course, with this being new hardware, the phone’s performance should improve significantly compared to its predecessor, where Samsung says there’s a significant performance boost over the Galaxy A32 5G. In addition, the phone also has a 5,000 mAh battery that supports 25W fast charging, but no wireless charging. This battery capacity promises 2 days of use.

Finally, the phone runs Android 12 with Samsung’s One UI and promises 4 years of OS updates and 5 years of security updates.

Camera

There is a quad-camera system on the rear of the Galaxy A33 5G, but as usual with mid-range phones, this needs to be approached with caution. There are two cameras that are worth the attention of users and two cameras that are probably not.

The main camera here is a 48 MP sensor assisted by optical image stabilization (OIS). It’s also important to note that this primary camera is the only one that offers autofocus, with the others being fixed focus.

Paired with the main camera is an ultra-wide camera. Since there is no telephoto camera, users will be limited in zoom performance when all will be digital zoom. Anyway, ultra-wide shots can be good enough, so at least users will have some creative choices.

The next two cameras are a 2 MP depth sensor that helps increase performance in blurred background photos, but reviews of this secondary sensor show that it doesn’t make too much of a difference. The same can be said of macro sensors – a trend that has emerged over the past few years but is impractical.

General comment

The Galaxy A33 5G has taken a step forward compared to 2021, with a new design and screen, and enhanced hardware that make this phone closer to the Galaxy A53 5GB.

Upgrades on the phone have made the price of the device at 9.99 million, but in return users have a much better device, including an attractive design and screen.
