The world’s oldest koala raised in the wild turns 25 years old

Midori was born on February 1, 1997 in Australia and was sent from Australia’s Yanchep National Park to Hyogo Province in 2003. On average, Koala can live from 15 to 16 years, however, Midori’s age is 25 years, far exceeding the average lifespan of his kind. According to the staff of Awaji Park, Midori’s age is comparable to that of a person over 120 years old.

Sister Izumi – Koala care worker, Awaji Park, Hyogo Prefecture, Japan shared: “I hope Midori is always healthy, I am very happy to be able to take care of Midori, I will take care of him like like a family member.”

The caretakers said that Midori was the thinnest and weakest of the four koalas who came to this park in 2003 and that it was able to live so long, which really surprised many people. Currently, Midori always has a monthly health check including a weight check and blood test.
