Van Nistelrooy is about to start a military career

This is information revealed by the Dutch newspaper ED. Specifically, PSV Eindhoven planned to appoint Ruud van Nistelrooy replace Roger Schmidt after this season. The former striker of Man Utd is the No. 1 candidate due to the support of the leaders at the Philips Stadium.

Appointing Van Nistelrooy is a very natural decision of PSV Eindhoven because the former Dutch player has had nearly 3 years working with the U18 team. Before that, when he was still playing, he also had 3 years with PSV Eindhoven before moving to Man Utd (1998-2001). During this period, Van Nistelrooy had two seasons winning the Dutch top scorer and best player award (1998-99 and 1999-2000).

After parting with Malaga in the summer of 2012, Van Nistelrooy decided to retire from his football career (at the age of 35). Just a year later, the former Man Utd striker began coaching at PSV Eindhoven.

Between 2014-16, Van Nistelrooy was assistant coach in the Netherlands national team for Guus Hiddink and Daley Blind. Currently, he is also holding the same role in the national team. However, Van Nistelrooy is very interested in PSV Eindhoven’s plan because he really wants to start a military career after nearly 10 years of learning.

Coach Rogers Schmidt has confirmed his departure from PSV Eindhoven at the end of this season because of the inability to reach an agreement to sign a new contract. Currently, PSV is ranked 2nd in the Dutch league, only 2 points behind the top team Ajax Amsterdam.

According to ED, after appointing Van Nistelrooy, PSV Eindhoven will be looking for an experienced assistant. Fred Rutten, 59, is considered the leading candidate. This leader used to lead PSV in the period 2009-2012.
