Airfare prices on the occasion of the increase April 30
The events of April 30 – May 1 lasted four days, so travel demand increased, making airline tickets three times more expensive than weekdays and 10-25% over the same period.
Vietnam has officially opened its doors to international tourists since March 15. It’s been almost 2 months before the holiday, but the ticket prices change every day. In particular, flight routes from Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City to well-known tourist destinations such as Phu Quoc, Nha Trang, Quy Nhon, Da Nang, Hue… cost up to almost 5 million VND per round.
The Hanoi – Phu Quoc route, the afternoon ticket price from April 29 to May 3 is open for sale on the Vietnam Airlines system, VND 9.9 million for a round trip. This is also the day with the highest selling price during the holiday above. As for Bamboo Airways, the average fare is around 7.2 million VND for a round trip. With low-cost airline Vietjet Air, the price is also up to 7.5 million for a round trip.
Compared to normal days, the prices above are three times higher. Compared to the same period last year, the ticket prices above are 10-25% higher.
Ms. Hoang (Hanoi) said that last year, his family traveled to Hanoi – Phu Quoc each pair of round-trip economy class tickets to April 29 and May 3 Vietnam Airlines only 7.9 million VND. This year, the family booked 2 months in advance but the ticket price was not cheap at all. Therefore, his family decided to move to Nha Trang but also more than 7 million VND a pair.
Likewise, Ms. Oanh at Go Vap (HCMC) said that holiday ticket prices increased, but taking advantage of the long vacation, his whole family decided to book the Ho Chi Minh City – Quy Nhon route in advance. “It’s been more than a year that Covid-19 has prevented the whole family from leaving the house, it’s time for the family to relieve stress,” said Ms Oanh.
According to Ms. Thu, the owner of the ticket booth in Cau Giay (Hanoi), the number of guests booked from April 30 – May 1 increased by about 10%. Not only customers who book flights have a purpose for traveling, but many people also choose this opportunity to visit their homeland. Even tickets for low-passenger routes such as Hanoi/HCMC – Pleiku, Hanoi/HCMC – Quang Nam, Hanoi/HCMC – Phu Yen, the demand has also increased compared to last year.
“Every year, on holidays, tickets run out 3 days before the holiday, this year tickets may run out faster because many airlines don’t increase flights as strongly as in the same period in previous years,” said Thu.
Airlines said ticket prices are currently higher than in the same period last year due to increased public demand. Previously, this airline also launched many cheap tickets, but all of them were purchased by customers.
On the other hand, there are fewer flights for this year’s holiday after a complicated outbreak of the past two years caused many airlines to reduce their fleets.
“Next week, we will announce information to increase flights to serve holidays. Therefore, fares may be better than today,” said the airline representative.
The airline hopes the number of passengers transported during this holiday will increase more than the same period last year when Vietnam opened its doors not only to domestic tourists but also to international tourists.
According to statistics, the tourism industry also prospered when the number of tourists traveling increased. The National Tourism Administration said that during the 9 days of Tet (from January 29 to February 6), tourism welcomed 6.1 million domestic visitors; the total revenue from tourists is estimated at more than 25,000 billion VND. Many tourist destinations, the number of visitors increased 5-6 times. Where, Phu Quoc and Da Lat is a favorite place of tourists. Flights to these locations in the context of the 2022 Chinese New Year have also “sold out” early.
