Speaking at a discussion session on March 23 with the theme “The future of employment in the ASEAN region”, Vietnamese Ambassador to Singapore Mai Phuoc Dung said that Vietnam has approved the Socio-Economic Development Strategy. 10-year (2021-2030) and 5-year socio-economic development plan (2021-2025), which emphasizes restructuring the economy towards modernization, focusing on a number of important industries. such as information technology, finance and banking, clean energy, marine economy, etc.

The conference aims to connect and support business activities in an environment increasingly complex due to both the Covid-19 pandemic and geopolitical uncertainties.

Ambassador Mai Phuoc Dung said that in the future, Vietnam now has a great demand for skilled technical workers or middle and high management personnel in key industries such as electronics and semiconductors. , information technology, finance and banking, clean energy and marine economy.

For example, in the energy industry, the demand for skilled workers in the green energy industry is increasing with the strong growth of this industry in Vietnam in recent years and in the coming years.

According to Ambassador Mai Phuoc Dung, the Vietnamese workforce is highly appreciated by foreign companies for its ability to work, being quick to learn and grasp new skills.

However, Vietnam is also facing challenges to have a skilled workforce large enough to meet the high demand for future economic development in Vietnam.

Faced with the growing demand for highly skilled and trained workers now and in the coming years, the Government of Vietnam is actively supporting the digital and technology transformation process for businesses, especially SMEs account for 96% of companies in Vietnam and employ 47% of the workforce.

Ambassador Mai Phuoc Dung also called for further cooperation among ASEAN countries in the field of human resource training, whereby countries with higher qualifications can assist developing countries in building good human resources. , to meet the region’s high demand for human resources in the near future.
