Elon Musk dances to celebrate the opening of a 5 billion Euro electric car factory

According to CNBC, Elon Musk has officially opened Tesla’s production facility in Europe (Giga Berlin factory).

At the ceremony, Elon Musk danced as he presided over the delivery of the first Tesla cars made in Germany to 30 customers and their families at the new factory worth up to 5 billion euros.

“This is a great day for the factory and another step in the direction of a sustainable future,” said Elon Musk.

Tesla says it expects Giga Berlin to have a capacity of up to 500,000 vehicles per year. The German publication Auto Motor Und Sport reports that the factory Tesla is aiming for an output of 2,000 vehicles within the first few weeks of mass production. And Troy Teslike, an independent Tesla researcher, estimates that Tesla’s new factory will reach a capacity of 1,000 units per week in the first 6 weeks and then reach 5,000 units per week by the end of 2022.

The opening of Giga Berlin is considered an important step for Tesla in reducing production pressure for its two factories in the US and China.

According to CNBC, Tesla is struggling to meet demand, with reports now saying there are delivery delays with the Model Y and Model 3 in certain markets.

Last week, Tesla had to temporarily close its Shanghai manufacturing plant because of COVID-19. This reduced the production of Model 3 and Model Y made in China for at least 2 days. In recent quarters, Tesla has exported vehicles from China to customers in Europe.

Demand for electric vehicles is very strong in Europe, and Tesla can now rely on manufacturing there, not just moving it from China.

Giga Berlin took years to build. The factory is crucial to Tesla’s plans to expand globally following the opening of its Gigafactory 3 in Shanghai in early 2020. The company also started Model Y production at another factory. in Austin, Texas.

However, not everyone is happy when Giga Berlin goes live. Many people worry that the factory will use too much water and they are also not satisfied with the amount of trees that have been cut down to build Giga Berlin.
