Fighting near the international airport in the Somali capital Mogadishu

Somali National Television (SNTV) reported that security forces were dealing with a terrorist attack at one of the main gates of the Halane base in the capital Mogadishu. The base complex near the airport is home to the headquarters of the United Nations, various aid agencies, foreign missions, the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) and contractors.

The witness said that vehicles are no longer allowed to move along the road inside the airport. The terrorist group Al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Al-Shabaab has ramped up operations in Somalia, despite the country’s aggressive government forces launching several raids in recent months in central and southern Somalia.
