Recently, Korean media reported the actor Kim Min Kyo was sentenced to two years of probation after his dog fatally bit an elderly man in his 80s.
In May 2020, Kim Min Kyo released her dog into the yard in Gwangju, Gyeonggi Province.
Although the yard was fenced, the fence was not closed tightly, causing the dog to run out and bite the hand and foot of an elderly passerby. She was hospitalized for about 2 months, before passing away in July of the same year.
Regarding Kim Min Kyo’s sentence, the judge stated: “In the past, a dog has also caused a similar incident. However, Kim Min Kyo did not pay attention to the method of raising a pet, leading to a violation of the obligations and responsibilities of a pet owner.” .
Kim Min Kyo also admitted his wrongdoing and expressed remorse, at the same time apologized and compensated the victim’s family. He will not appeal the court’s decision.
During 2 years of probation, if the same incident occurs, he will face a minimum prison sentence of 8 months.
