Loss of life when sawing warheads

Thanh HoaMai Dinh Son, 41 years old, living in Quang Nhan commune, Quang Xuong district, died when he used a hand saw to cut warheads selling scrap metal, on the afternoon of March 22.

According to the government of the Quang Nhan commune, Mr. Son worked as a scrap metal dealer. A few days ago, he bought warheads from a collector. Since the agent didn’t receive this item, he kept it.

The scene shows that the warhead has great destructive power. Shrapnel hit many large holes in the corrugated iron roof, damaging many items.

Authorities said the large bullet was a weapon left over from wartime and still had the fuse intact.

Statistics are incomplete from 1975 to the present, more than 40,000 people have died and 60,000 were injured from unexploded ordnance, not to mention the consequences of Agent Orange. On average, more than 1,000 people die each year, and 1,300 suffer lifelong disabilities.
