Plane crash in China: China asks the US to assist in the investigation

Speaking to the press, Secretary Pete Buttigieg said: “The US Civil Aviation Administration (FAA) stands ready to support the commission to participate in the investigation process.”

On the same day, the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) announced that one of the aircraft’s black boxes was found to be the pilot’s cockpit voice recorder. According to a CAAC official, the data storage units in the black box are relatively intact, although some are damaged. The black box is currently being sent to Beijing.

On March 21, Boeing 737 aircraft number 5735 of China Eastern Airlines, departing from Kunming city (capital of Yunnan province) to Guangzhou city (capital of Guangdong province), lost contact lost while flying over Wuzhou city in Guangxi province.

At the time of the accident, there were 132 people on board, including 123 passengers and 9 crew members. No survivors have been found so far.
