SpaceX searches for potential aircraft Internet for Starlink-Information Technology

SpaceX believes that the field of in-flight Internet services needs to change completely, and Starlink can provide a solution for faster and simpler Internet access.

Aerospace group SpaceX believes that a type of antenna specifically for aircraft can help connect the system Internet SpaceX’s Starlink satellite with current civil aircraft.

At the Satellite 2022 conference, SpaceX Vice President of Starlink and Commercial Products Jonathan Hofeller said: “Connectivity [Internet] In-flight is an area where we believe it’s time for a complete innovation.”

According to Mr. Hofeller, passenger expectations for in-flight Internet service have changed faster than the rate at which the technology is evolving – a fact that creates opportunities for Starlink. Mr. Hofeller added: “Our approach to networking on the plane is the same as at home: You walk into your house and get high-speed Internet. Simple is that.”

In the United States, airlines partner with broadband satellite Internet service providers to provide in-flight Internet services. However, Starlink’s satellites are in a lower orbit than those of existing services, which may result in higher Internet speeds on board. Besides, Starlink’s large satellite system can also help to make Internet access on airplanes less interrupted.

Currently, SpaceX is testing its own antenna for the in-flight Starlink service. Hofeller emphasized that SpaceX is also in the process of applying for the necessary certifications to enter this market.

SpaceX has launched about 2000 Starlink satellites into orbit. According to Hofeller, the service has approximately 250,000 registered customers globally, including both individual and corporate customers.
