March 23, page Bangkokpost Reportedly, Thai authorities found a Vietnamese man rowing an inflatable boat in the middle of the sea towards India. Accordingly, a spokesman for the 3rd Fleet said that at 11:50 am on March 23 (local time), Panya Permwongnitikorn, a fisherman on the Tor Khrong Phet Rung Ruang boat reported the discovery. The small boat is located about 14 km from the Similan Islands and about 80 km from Phangnga.

On the boat, in addition to a man, they also found a bottle of drinking water, 10 packets of instant noodles and a suitcase. At 12:45 on the same day, sailors and border police officers were present in this area to carry out rescue work.

There, they identified the man as Ho Hoang Hung, 37 years old, from Vietnam. He was sitting on his rubber boat and was anchored by a fishing boat to avoid being sunk by big waves. According to Mr. Hung, he was sailing towards India to meet his wife. She is of Indian descent, currently based in Mumbai. The couple got married 2 years ago but were unexpectedly separated during the Covid-19 outbreak. When he was rescued, Mr. Hung’s 2.5-meter-long boat was almost full of water.

Hung stated that he had arrived at Suvarnabhumi Airport from Ho Chi Minh City on March 2. At this airport, he intended to board another flight to fly to India but was unable to obtain a visa. In a difficult situation, he decided to take a bus from Bangkok to Phuket and bought an inflatable boat. He began launching and sailing to India on March 5, with the goal of sailing 2,000 km to reach the city where his wife lives. Thai fishermen found Hung after 18 nights floating alone at sea. Currently, Hung has been taken by Thai border police to the office of Mu Ko Similan National Park in Phangnga to arrange further assistance.
