Travel to Thailand is bittersweet for Vietnamese guests

Negative Covid-19 with PCR in Vietnam, but Thuy Giang got a positive result when he went to Thailand, had to self-isolate for 10 days at a cost of 19 million VND.

Duong Thuy Giang, Hanoi, on March 12 left for Thailand to travel, combine shopping after the country reopen. To complete the procedure, on February 10, Giang underwent a PCR test at a Vietnamese hospital and received a negative result. Before departing, just to be careful, he did a quick self-test for two consecutive days on March 11 and 12 the morning before flight time. All had negative results.

Upon arrival in Pattaya, Giang went to Bangkok Pattaya Hospital for a test and returned to the hotel he had previously booked. Isolation according to procedures. The morning of March 13, the hospital contacted and informed that the test result was positive for Covid-19, CT index (virus concentration) 34.08-38.86 and asked for 10 days of isolation at the hotel due to the hospital point.

“I was surprised by the results when I prepared very carefully from Vietnam. I explained according to regulations in Thailand, negative results must have a CT index above 40, unlike Vietnam with CT above 33 it is almost not contagious anymore. ,” he said. Not convinced by the results, he asked to be tested at another hospital. However, the hospital also explained that the initial results would be recorded and for further testing it would cost 4,800 baht (about 3.3 million VND).

After much discussion with the hospital, Giang agreed to be isolated in a hotel for 10 days, for 28,000 baht (19 million VND). The hotel asked Giang to pay the entire amount, but he only brought 6,000 baht in cash and after much talk, he agreed to deposit 2,000 baht. On the morning of March 22, before the day he ended his isolation, he had to pay the full amount to receive the documents.

Giang shared that he had to borrow more money from a Vietnamese friend to pay and had just finished a one-day quarantine today. He will return to Vietnam on March 26. Currently, he is also contacting the insurance company that purchased the service earlier and received a request on his return to Vietnam to send back all test results and invoices for consideration and payment according to regulations.

“Before I left, I was consulted for an insurance package that covers Covid-19 treatment, but I never thought I would fall into this situation. I felt so disappointed, crying and laughing because I was just wasting my time, only risking money after that. this trip,” he said. Giang later handed out a warning to a group of Vietnamese traveling to Thailand for reflection and said he would not return to the country.

Similar to Thuy Giang, Phuong Trang who came to Thailand on March 19 also received a positive result, with a CT index of 34.88-35.12, although previously in Vietnam the results were negative. Trang said he didn’t believe the hospital’s PCR results, so he asked to be tested elsewhere, isolated in another hotel. After many exchanges, he was allowed to return to his relative’s home in Thailand for isolation.

“I have a suggestion for those of you who are going to Thailand, you need to find a reputable PCR testing center and prepare yourself carefully, find out information in Vietnam. If you have real travel goals, you can wait longer. The open door policy in this country is more open,” Trang said.

On the morning of March 23, reply VnExpressThe Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) said it had just received information from third parties about Vietnamese tourists having problems in Thailand related to being infected with Covid-19, but had not yet received a direct photo response from visitors. Therefore, the TAT takes time to verify the information and will immediately provide input and instructions to Vietnamese tourists.
