A Vietnamese man rowing a rubber boat intends to cross the sea to visit his wife in India

Ho Hoang Tung was discovered by a Thai fishing boat floating at sea.

A representative from the Thai Navy’s 3rd Fleet said that at 11:50 a.m. on March 23, a fishing boat driver reported the discovery of a man rowing an inflatable canoe some distance from the Similan Islands. 14km ​​and 80km from the coast of Phangnga province.

After hearing the news, the rescue force was at the reported location at 12:45 am. There, they met 37-year-old Ho Hoang Tung on a rubber dinghy that had been tethered to a fishing boat. The 2.5 meter long canoe had only a nearly empty water bottle, 10 packets of instant noodles and a suitcase.

The Vietnamese man said he was sailing to India to meet his Indian wife in Mumbai. He also said that the two were married but were separated by the Covid-19 epidemic.

Mr. Tung said that he flew from Ho Chi Minh City to Suvarnabhumi airport on March 2. At this airport, he was planning to take a connecting flight to India but he was unable to obtain a visa.

So he took a bus from Bangkok to Phuket and bought an inflatable canoe. On March 5, he started his sailing trip to India with an expected journey of 2,000km. Fishermen discovered him after he had spent 18 days at sea alone.

Thai officials then took him to the office of Mu Ko Similan National Park to arrange support for the amorous husband.
