Detect body temperature to find victims of China plane crash

Rescue teams are using body temperature scanners to explore the canyon, hoping to find survivors of the MU5735 crash.

“The main task now is to focus on finding victims and rescuing survivors,” Huang Shangwu, an officer at the Guangxi Province Fire and Rescue Service, said of the current order issued by the command. China Eastern Airlines’ Boeing 737-800 crashed in March. 21 in Teng County, Wuzhou City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

Authorities on March 23 said they had found human remains at the crash site, but did not rule out finding survivors trapped on a mountainside covered with trees and mud.

“We are using body temperature scanners and life detectors to search the ground. We are also deploying manual search troops and mobilizing drones,” Huang said.

Four days after flight MU5735 with 132 people on board crashed into the area, Chinese authorities said no casualties had been found, but had not declared all 123 passengers and nine crew dead.

The high-speed collision of the plane cut a deep hole into the muddy ground on the mountainside. The plane broke into hundreds of pieces, and passenger luggage and personal belongings were strewn across a large area, making hopes of finding survivors slim.

Search teams yesterday found the black box containing the cockpit voice recorder and sent it to Beijing for analysis. Experts hope the black box will help provide clues as to the cause of the crash, which caused the plane to fall almost vertically from nearly 9,000 meters to the ground at high speed.

Data from FlightRadar24 shows the plane descended from 8,800 meters to 2,263 meters in just over a minute, before the pilot emerged to regain altitude, and then the plane continued to dive.

Chinese officials said the captain of flight MU5735 had more than 6,700 flight hours, the first copilot had more than 31,000 flight hours and the second copilot had more than 550 flight hours. Prior to the crash, all three pilots were in good health and had no personal problems.
