Metal Exchange London (LME) currently has no plans to ban Russian manufacturers from participating in their metal systems such as nickel or aluminum, despite calls from some members.

Specifically, the LME said it currently “has no plans to take independent action outside the scope of government sanctions such as placing restrictions on the circulation of metal produced in Russia in the LME system”.

The LME added: “Our priority is to maintain an orderly market for the benefit of all market participants and we will therefore maintain a dialogue with governments as the situation becomes more critical.” more stressful.”

Western countries have punished the Bank of Russia and wealthy individuals have ties to Russia’s top leadership since Russia launched a campaign involving Ukraine last month. To date, however, no restrictions have been imposed on Russian metal purchases.

Russia supplies about 10% of nickel, 6% of aluminum and about 3.5% of copper to the world market. Analysts say the Russian ban on trading with metals could exacerbate already tight supplies and push prices up further.
