The video of a 10-year-old boy who didn’t say a word when he had to take 30 blood tubes for tests to see if he was suitable to donate bone marrow to save his seriously ill mother quickly caused a storm on China’s Douyin social network.
Cao Song (33 years old), the boy’s father Cao Xuanyi, said that the boy traveled more than 400 km with his grandfather to Suzhou city for a health check on March 7. Before that, the initial blood sample showed that Xuanyi was suitable to donate bone marrow to the sick mother.

The video, which has attracted more than 237,000 views, shows light. the boy’s unyielding eyes as the medical staff took blood from his hand to take for testing.
Mr. Cao’s family lives in Anhui province, east China. Boy Xuanyi and his brother (3 years old) live with his parents and grandparents. The family’s main source of income was a small-scale clothing store until illness struck.
Accordingly, Ms. Cao Meixia (33 years old) was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) in July 2020, after she had a blood test during a visit to treat a leg wound.
After that, Ms. Cao and her husband decided to close their business and let their grandmother take care of their 2 children. The couple went to a hospital in Suzhou city for treatment.
When they arrived in Suzhou, they rented a room near the hospital for convenience. But they did not expect that this will be the place to stay for the next 3 years in the journey to fight the disease.
“We’ve only been back home to visit the kids six to seven times in the past three years,” Cao said.
Mr. Cao added that his wife’s condition has stabilized after 5 rounds of chemotherapy. But the test results in December 2021 showed that the disease recurred.
The only way to save the wife is to perform a bone marrow transplant and the best option is to find a family member to increase the success rate of the surgery.
After his brother-in-law’s test results were unsuitable for a bone marrow donation, Mr. Cao asked the doctor to check Xuanyi’s baby after hearing that many surgeries to take the child’s marrow transplanted to his mother had been successful.
“If I had any other choice, I would not have asked the doctor to examine my son. I am deeply saddened, because the boy is too young even when the doctor assured me that the marrow donation will not affect his health in the future, “said Cao.
Fortunately, after a series of examinations and tests, baby Xuanyi was determined to be suitable to donate marrow to his mother. The boy has returned home with his grandparents and is waiting for the day to be called to a hospital in the city of Suzhou for surgery with his mother. In the meantime, the most important thing for Xuanyi is to stay healthy.
“You gave birth to me and I owe it to her. I want my mother to come home with me so that the whole family can be happy every day,” Xuanyi said.
It is known that Ms. Cao has completed the 9th round of chemotherapy and the date of the bone marrow transplant will be scheduled 8-9 days after the doctor completed the evaluation of the effectiveness of the last chemotherapy session.
