One of the biggest pieces that still remains open in Dragon Ball is the origin of Goku as well as his parents, Bardock and Gine – of whom Goku has almost no memory of. Dragon Ball Super has given audiences more details about Goku’s parents, who may play an important role in future events.

4. Bardock is an exemplary husband

Goku is undeniably an inspirational character, but he’s not a perfect character. One of Goku’s weak points is his relationship with Chi-Chi. Goku has a rather fuzzy connection with his wife, but Dragon Ball has reasoned that this could be a trait of the Saiyan race. They pair up for the purpose of reproduction, not out of love, Saiyan warriors are also very alien to pure emotions. However, the case of Bardock and Gine is perhaps an exception, they have respect for each other and this is shown by both saving Goku from danger.

3. Bardock and Gine allow Raditz to train

The couple seems to love Goku so much, they chose to send Goku to Earth to escape the destruction of Planet Vegeta. Bardock and Gine sympathize with the youngest son, they allow the child to determine his own future as he wishes.

However, Bardock and Gine also have another child besides Goku – Raditz – who is treated in a completely different way. They introduced Raditz to a life of training and combat, allowing him to travel across the galaxy to hone his skills. Both Bardock and Gine were very proud that their son was able to train with Prince Vegeta.

2. Can’t control gorilla form

In the original Dragon Ball story arc, the gorilla form was seen as an effective and powerful tool for the Saiyan race to engage in combat. However, over time, it gradually became inconsistent with the power concepts introduced by the Super Saiyan. In the initial setting, Saiyan Elites like Vegeta have the ability to control themselves when using their gorilla form. In addition, the lower level Saiyans will be able to maintain their monkey form in a stable and sober manner. Bardock and Gine were in this low class of warriors, so they didn’t have the ability to control their monkey form.

Prior to Dragon Ball Super, Bardock’s appearances were limited to flashbacks. That makes information about them quite limited. To please fans, Dragon Ball: Episode of Bardock was released with a storyline focusing on Bardock alone. In this episode, the Saiyan warrior time travels and battles Frieza’s ancestor, Chilled. Bardock even transforms into his Super Saiyan form. While fans generally agree that the events of this expansion shouldn’t be viewed as canon, it’s still an episode that provides a lot of new information about Bardock and his powers.
