Apple may rent out iPhones and iPads
According to the latest report by Bloomberg, Apple will likely let users rent iPhone and iPad, with a monthly fee like Apple Music or Apple TV Plus services. The iPhone and iPad rental service is likely to launch later this year or early 2023.
Currently, the price to rent iPhone and iPad monthly has not been disclosed. Bloomberg reports that users have the option to upgrade to the latest iPhone and iPad models, while their subscription is still available. And like other Apple services, it will be tied to the user’s Apple ID account, along with AppleCare warranties or Apple One service plans.
However, the official information about this special service of Apple is still quite small. It’s hard to imagine that Apple would lease a brand new iPhone or iPad to a user, for just a few months, and the user would return it. There are quite a few risks with such a rental of hardware equipment.
The Bloomberg report is also unclear, on whether Apple will actually lease or will launch an installment program. Apple may simply want to eliminate financial intermediaries, allowing users to buy new iPhones and iPads in monthly installments.
Apple has also allowed its customers to buy interest-free installments with the Apple Card, but only for a very small group of users.
