Arrest 7 teenagers suspected of carrying out the Microsoft attack

“We are opening an investigation against members of a hacker group,” said Inspector Michael O’Sullivan of the London Police Service. “Seven people between the ages of 16 and 21 were arrested in connection with the investigation, all were released on bail but were not allowed to leave their residences. We are still gathering more information.”

Lapsus$ has claimed responsibility for hacks into tech companies like Nvidia, Samsung, Ubisoft, Okta and Microsoft. On March 23, a report showed that a 16-year-old boy in Oxford is believed to be the leader of a hacker group. Authorities did not say if the teen was among those arrested.

At least one member of the hacker group also appears to be involved in the data theft of game publisher Electronic Arts, cybersecurity expert Brian Krebs said. Vice news site on March 24 presented evidence confirming Lapsus$’s participation in the attack, saying the incident “marks the possibility that this hacker group will target larger targets in the future”.

Accordingly, hackers stole the source codes of FIFA and EA Frostbite games, EA’s software development kit and a number of other technical tools to extort money from the publisher of this game.

The identity of the mastermind behind Lapsus$ is likely to be revealed by their own customers. According to the Krebs report, last year, the leader of the hacker group acquired and operated Doxbin, a website where people can share or search for other people’s personal information. In January 2022, the subject uploaded all “Doxbin data” to Telegram and caused the community to use this site to boil in retaliation.
