COVID-19 March 25: Three provinces and cities with positive cases of SARS-CoV-2 rising sharply, risk of outbreak high

On the afternoon of March 24, the Steering Committee for the Prevention and Control of COVID-19 and Economic Recovery of Ho Chi Minh City held a press conference to provide information on the epidemic situation in the area.

F1 with full dose of vaccine will be able to go to school and work

Prior to this press conference, on the morning of March 24, the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee issued a decision to allow F1 to go straight to work and go to school if certain conditions were met. However, the case of people who are F0 are still not allowed to work or go to school directly.

Answering the question why F0 is not allowed to work or go to school directly like some provinces and cities in the country (Long An, Ca Mau), Nguyen Thi Huynh Mai, Head of the Ho Chi Minh City Health Department Office, said that currently consulting on the response to the COVID- 19 was carried out by the Ministry of Health, but the Steering Committee for Epidemic and Economic Recovery Ho Chi Minh City is the institution that makes the final decision. . “Assessing the situation of the number of new COVID-19 cases, severe cases and deaths, the Ministry of Health has advised the Municipal People’s Committee to allow F1 to work if it meets certain requirements,” Mai said.

However, with case F0, Ms Mai said that these are patients who need to be treated at home or in hospital.

According to Ms. Mai, although the number of deaths from COVID-19 is decreasing at a very low rate, the number of severe cases is not decreasing in a sustainable manner but is steadily increasing and decreasing. “If the number of COVID-19 cases increases again, severe cases and deaths will definitely increase, that’s Ho Chi Minh City’s experience drawn from previous epidemics,” Ms Mai said.

Regarding this matter, Mr. Nguyen Hong Tam, Deputy Director of the Center for Disease Control of Ho Chi Minh City, said that according to the Ministry of Health’s previous proposal, not all F0s could come to work. Only eligible F0s can work online at home or in isolation, working in other F0 care facilities with multiple constraints.

Regarding the F1 decision to go to work, Mr. Tam said that in educational institutions, F1 cases will be determined based on the F0 and F1 determination guidelines from the Ministry of Health. From there, the medical facility will determine F1 based on class seats and other activities during hands-on learning.

It can’t be considered an ordinary disease

Answering a question about whether with the high vaccination rate and COVID-19 recovery, Ho Chi Minh City has now achieved herd immunity, Nguyen Thi Huynh Mai said many experts around the world are discussing and proposing to consider the COVID-19 epidemic as an endemic or endemic disease .

In Vietnam (VN), the Ministry of Health recently had discussions with domestic and foreign experts, the World Health Organization and the US Centers for Disease Control on the assessment and assessment of the COVID-19 epidemic situation in Vietnam. “Organizations and experts have outlined four characteristics of the epidemic situation in our country. They believe that SARS-CoV-2 has been recorded in all provinces and cities, but is still in the transition period between a pandemic and an endemic disease,” Mai said.

Experts also say that the rate of COVID-19 cases has not stabilized and that there are big differences between regions, especially between provinces that used to have high infection rates and those that have recently risen sharply. The number of deaths per day is still very high compared to other infectious diseases.

At the same time, the SARS-CoV-2 virus continues to mutate and records new variants as Omicron, even in that variant, subvariants such as BA.1, BA.2, BA.3 continue to appear. This variant can evade immunity, cause re-infection, its occurrence is difficult to determine and unstable.

Therefore, Mai said that currently Vietnam does not consider the COVID-19 epidemic as an endemic disease and needs to continue to cooperate with health organizations in the world and other countries to monitor the epidemic situation. the health sector will suggest changes.
