The future of Vietnam’s beekeeping industry before the anti-dumping ruling from the US

4 months ago, after the US issued the preliminary conclusion of the investigation case, anti-dumping For Vietnamese honey products, Vietnamese honey that wants to be exported to this market must be taxed over 410% instead of 5% as usual. Since then, honey exports to the United States have almost frozen. According to the Vietnam Beekeeping Association, the damage can be up to trillions of dong.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, if the final conclusion on April 8 is that the US still applies such a high anti-dumping tax, Vietnam will ask the US to review its investigation steps or bring this matter up. to the WTO to settle in accordance with regulations. At the same time, the Ministry of Industry and Trade also launched many other commercial plans for Vietnamese honey.

“The leadership of the Ministry of Industry and Trade directs the beekeeping association to introduce honey to other markets for export, to support export businesses to take advantage of new free trade agreements with the EU, UK or RCEP. These are all. These are very good agreements, the partners are committed to bringing the export tax rate to 0%”, said Mr. Le Trieu Dung – Director of the Trade Remedies Department, Ministry of Industry and Trade.

However, at present, the annual honey production is about 70,000 tons, of which 90% is exported to the United States, so replacing such a key market requires a lot of time and preparation.

Mr. Dinh Quyet Tam – Chairman of the Vietnam Beekeeping Association said: “The EU and the European market in general have other quality requirements that are difficult to meet in our tropical conditions. In other markets such as the Middle East, Korea, and Japan, the demand in these countries is not large and the quality requirements are not necessarily appropriate.

In addition, after assessing the domestic market and some other markets that still have room for growth, the Ministry of Industry and Trade is guiding localities, associations and businesses to increase honey consumption in the domestic market. .
