The woman is miserable because of a 5kg tumor on her right breast

Doctors of the Breast Unit (under the Oncology Center, Cho Ray Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City) have just performed emergency surgery on a woman with a giant tumor in her right breast. The surgery was performed on 23/3.

The patient is Ms. MTSN, 37 years old, living in Tra Vinh province. Ms. N. said that in 2018, while she was pregnant, she had a tumor in her right breast.

Ms. N. received emergency surgery on March 23.

She went to Ho Chi Minh City to examine at a number of medical facilities. But for various reasons, she returned to her hometown to give birth and plan to receive treatment later. She lived with the growing tumor during the time of taking care of and raising children.

“My husband is working far away, and he has a pandemic, so he rarely comes home. I live in Tra Vinh to take care of two young children, my family situation is difficult, so I just told my heart to wait for my husband to come back and then take me to the doctor”, said Ms. N.

Recently, the tumor appeared ulcer, Ms. N. still had swelling in her legs, so she went to Cho Ray Hospital for examination. Here, the doctors discovered that the patient had venous thrombosis in both legs and gave medical treatment. Doctors from the Breast Unit also performed biopsies to determine the nature of the tumor in Ms. N’s breast.

While waiting for the results of histopathology, patient N.’s tumor was getting bigger and bigger, ulcerating and bleeding a lot. Ms. N. was forced to return to Cho Ray Hospital and received emergency surgery on March 23.

Tumor was removed.

“The results show that this is a benign but rapidly growing chlorophyll tumor. The patient had reached the stage where the tumor was ulcerated, extending beyond the chest wall and down to the right side of the abdomen. We performed surgery, blood transfusion, removed the entire tumor.

In the past, we have operated on many cases of large tumors, but benign chlorophyll tumors in the breast weighing up to 5kg are very rare,” said Dr. Huynh Quang Khanh, Head of the Breast Unit.

Currently, after 2 days after surgery, patient N. is awake, exposed, talking normally, the incision recovers well. The patient is expected to be discharged from the hospital in the next few days.

Doctors said, mammary phyllodes tumor is a pathology of the mammary gland. Tumor has a leaf-like structure, consisting of connective tissue and epithelium. There are three types of leukoplakia: benign, borderline, and malignant.

Malignant leukoplakia is a very serious disease. Borderline syphilis also has a poor prognosis and requires early surgery. As for benign syphilis, if detected early when the tumor is small, it is only necessary to cut wide around the tumor, without removing the whole mammary gland.
