First built in Burbank, California in 1986 by renowned tuner Jay Ohrberg, The American Dream was originally 18.28 meters long, with V8 engines front and rear. Ohrberg then stretched the limo up to 100 feet (30.48 meters) and used it for a variety of events, before it was left in a warehouse in New Jersey for years and fell into disrepair. The car was originally made in two parts and connected in the middle by a hinge to turn when running into tight corners.

It was eventually listed on eBay, it changed hands twice from the trading platform, the car was bought by current owner Michael Dezer for an undisclosed amount.

Dezer then hired Michael Manning, the previous owner, to restore the car and make some modifications. On March 1 of this year, the limo officially broke its own Guinness World Record, after being stretched by 1.5 inches. The project cost more than $250,000 in transportation, materials and labor, and took three years to complete.

Initially, Manning intended to turn the limo into an electric car, but the cost was too great, not to mention the operating range was probably only a few tens of kilometers because of the weight and oversized size of the car.

The American Dream became famous in 1986 when it was first recognized by Guinness World Records as the longest car in the world. As one of the most unique vehicles ever rolled, the long limo is often rented out to appear in various films.

But after the whole world stopped caring about it, the legendary car began to stop rolling and rusting until the parts were badly damaged.

Manning, who owns the Autoseum, an engineering museum in Nassau County, New York, bought the limo in a state of great disrepair in the hopes of restoring it with the help of community donations, but this did not work. happened and once again the car was abandoned. The Autoseum’s contract with Nassau eventually came to an end, leaving Manning struggling to find a place where he could move the car to. In the end, he decided to post it on eBay.

In 2019, Michael Dezer, owner of Dezerland Tourist Points, saw the iconic vehicle listed on eBay and contacted Manning.

After Dezer purchased the limo, it was shipped to Orlando, Florida for restoration, and Manning agreed to help with the project he had always dreamed of completing. In preparation for the cross-country trip from New York to Orlando, the car was split into two parts and loaded onto a trailer.

With help from auto repair students and professionals Paul Novack and Stephen Wepprecht, Manning traveled to Florida, where the team began working together to restore the vehicle.

Most exterior work is completed using additional parts for restoration. The car also had some interior issues that had to be addressed. The team removed all furniture and machinery for replacement and repair.

After a lengthy restoration process, The American Dream is finally back with a fresh coat of paint and a set of flashy new wheels. The repair process also increased the length of the car by 1.5 inches.

Although the car is no longer lying in the dust in the warehouse, but at this length, it is also difficult to run on the road. “It was built for display”Manning said.

The car is currently on display at the Dezerland Park Orlando Auto Museum in Orlando, Florida.
