In December 2021, the Ministry of Health issued the form and process for the issuance of a “vaccine passport”. After this decision, the Ministry coordinated with the Ministry of Information and Communications and related agencies to build a system for issuing vaccine passport certification as well as modify and supplement the digital signature function on the vaccination management platform.
The Ministry of Health has piloted it at 3 hospitals, Bach Mai, K and E Hospital. The results show that the system is ready to meet the implementation of the issuance of electronic vaccine passports or electronic certificates of Covid-19 vaccination. -19.
Nguyen Ba Hung, Deputy Director of the Health Data Center, Information Technology Department, Ministry of Health, said that in the coming week, the Ministry of Health will organize a training conference to guide the issuance of electronic vaccine passports, from This will lead to the issuance of electronic vaccine passports nationwide.
An electronic vaccine passport has the same meaning as a paper vaccine passport, making it easier for people to travel and trade internationally. Currently, according to information from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Vietnam’s vaccine passport has been recognized by 17 countries.
According to Mr. Hung, the Information Technology Department is working with relevant units of the Ministry of Information and Communications to build a function to display vaccine passports on the PC-Covid application. If people already have the correct information on this application, they will be automatically shown the vaccine passport. The result is an international standard QR code that can be used to travel abroad.
From the end of 2021, Vietnam has developed a vaccine passport or an electronic vaccination certificate to prepare for the return of international visitors. This certificate displays the user’s personal information and vaccination information through a QR code with an expiry date of 12 months.
Deputy Minister Tran Van Thuan suggested the Information Technology Department continue to coordinate with relevant units to speed up the progress and complete the piloting of the digital signature of the Covid-19 injection. In case of necessity, advise the leadership of the Ministry to amend Decision 5772 to promptly guide the vaccination establishment to digitally sign the electronic certificate of vaccination against Covid-19 vaccine.
At the same time, actively develop forms, continue to review the Immunization Information Management System Covid-19 for regular updates and maintenance.
The Deputy Minister also suggested that the Ministry of Information and Communications continue to direct units to manage and build software to ensure convenient use, safety and security of information.
