However, at about 20:00 on March 23, the MC Facebook account suddenly posted a message on the Fanpage of Ca Mau people (with more than 30,000 members) with the content: “Shocking news on the afternoon of March 22: Hong Van and Viet Huong sadly announced that Tran Thanh had passed away forever at the age of 35 because of COVID-19“.

The above information was only posted for about 1 hour, but many people were interested and shared.

On the afternoon of March 24, responding to a press reporter, the leader of the Department of Information and Communications of Ca Mau province said that the Department had discovered and contacted the account holder to inquire about the establishment.

Determined that the above information is completely fabricated, the Ca Mau Department of Information and Communications has requested to remove and inspect and sanction the poster.

Currently, the authorities of the Department of Information and Communications of Ca Mau province are investigating the level of violations to handle according to regulations for Facebook MC account holders.

Decree No. 15/2020/ND-CP clearly stipulates the level of administrative penalties for acts of spreading fake information, causing confusion on social networks. Specifically, Article 101 of the Decree provides for fines from 10 – 20 million VND for acts of taking advantage of social networks to provide and share fake information, false information, distort, slander, offend the reputation of agencies or organizations, honor and dignity of individuals core; providing, sharing fabricated information, causing confusion among the people, inciting violence, crimes, social evils, gambling or serving gambling.
