Blooming white, brilliant pink at the cherry blossom festival in the US capital

After two years of closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year, Cherry Blossom Festival has reopened with many attractive cultural activities.

The entire US capital is being adorned with the bright pink of Cherry Blossom. The warm weather also caused the cherry blossoms to bloom earlier this year than usual. The organizers said that cherry blossoms bloom most from March 22-25. About more than 70% of the flower buds around Tidal Lake in central Washington DC bloom in brilliant white and pink. Therefore, at this time, the number of people coming to see flowers is also busier than before.

Sister Abby, a resident of Washington, USA, said: “It’s great when everything seems to be back to normal. I see everyone’s bright faces when they come here to see the cherry blossoms together. The weather is also great and we will be back again tomorrow“.

Along Tidal Lake, there are more than 3,800 cherry trees of 17 different varieties, most of which are ancient peach trees over 100 years old. Flowers come in a variety of colors from white, pale pink to deep pink. Single- and double-petaled flowers are also blooming. This year’s cherry blossom festival lasts from March 20 to April 17.

The Cherry Blossom Festival is not only a celebration of flowers but also a cultural festival, which will last for almost 4 weeks this year. The US capital at this time also hosts many other unique cultural events such as kite flying festival, annual parade or Japan Street Festival.
