Covid-19 Hanoi over the past month

Since the Lunar New Year, the number of Covid-19 cases in Hanoi has continuously increased and “takes the lead” in the country. Accumulating the 4th outbreak to March 25, the city recorded 1,241,567 infections. The Department of Health evaluates the city that has passed peak translationbut do not be subjective, neglect.

The peak of the Covid-19 epidemic

Before Tet, Hanoi maintained approximately 3,000 cases/day. During Tet, this number tends to decrease slightly, but is warned to be an “artificial” decrease. At the end of the holiday, people moved and traded in many places, Hanoi suddenly increased by nearly 4,000 cases/day.

In the last days of February and early March, Hanoi spiked the number of infections, continuously “peaking” around 30,000 cases. Experts consider the Omicron variant “threatened” and increased the risk of disease spread.

At the meeting of the Steering Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control on February 27, Mr. Chu Ngoc Anh, Chairman of the City People’s Committee, Mr. Hanoi warns, according to experts, around mid-March, the number of cases will continue to rise and peak depending on epidemic prevention and control measures.

The city considers this to be a huge challenge, pressure and difficulty for the grassroots health system if it does not promptly provide technological solutions and recommend people to raise their awareness.

In fact, On March 8, Hanoi recorded a record 32,650 Covid-19 cases. Along with that, at the health stations of communes, wards and townships, there was an overcrowded situation. Many F0s, after a quick test, were asked to go to the ward medical station in a long queue to be confirmed as F0 or the isolation period was over. Many ward health stations only have 8-10 medical staff, but at one point they all contracted Covid-19 and could not continue to work.

Mr. Chu Ngoc Anh assessed this situation as a burden on health care at all levels, especially at grassroots level. Procedures are piling up while medical staff still have to continue to check for at-risk subjects, elderly people with underlying medical conditions, etc. who have not received enough Covid-19 vaccine shots.

Hanoi President requested departments and districts to manage infected people through software, strengthen coordination of forces to reduce the load on the grassroots health system. In this regard, Ms. Tran Thi Nhi Ha, Director of the Hanoi Department of Health, requested to simplify the procedure, increase the use of F0 management software and maximize the application of technology.

In the following days, the number of cases continued to decrease. By March 25, The city is assessed to have passed the peak of the epidemic, currently managing 264,820 F0 floor 1 (mild or asymptomatic), accounting for 99.34%. In addition, 1,404 moderate patients were treated on the 2nd floor, accounting for 0.53%, and 345 severe and critical patients were treated on the 3rd floor, accounting for 0.13%.

Hanoi is consistent with the goal of reducing the number of cases, ensuring that the capacity of the health system is not exceeded. At the same time, the city controls the number of patients with severe transfer, floor transfer, and mortality rate.

Omicron “stealth” prevails

Omicron is the main circulating strain in Hanoi. On March 9, the results of gene sequencing of 93/109 random samples were identified as contaminated with Omicron, accounting for 85.3%. Of these, the sub-variant BA.2, or “stealth” Omicron, dominates with 86/93 samples.

According to studies, Omicron consists of 3 branches BA.1, BA.2, BA.3. According to the Ministry of Health, the sub-variant BA.2 is spreading around the world, its ability to spread is 1.5 times faster than the original variant BA.1 and has the ability to avoid the immune impact of current vaccines. about 30% more than the original BA.1 variant. Once infected with BA.1 there is still a chance of reinfection with BA.2 in the majority of young, unvaccinated people.

Doctor Nguyen Trung Trung, Deputy Director of the Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases said, so far there is no evidence that people with BA.2 cause more severe disease than BA.1 or other strains.

According to Dr. Level, currently, information about “stealth Omicron” has not been recorded to evade the quick test. But in fact, with the Omicron strain, the rapid test will not be as sensitive as the PCR test.

Usually, to identify a viral strain, one has to do a gene sequencing test. As for the Omicron BA.1 variant, because it has a missing mutation in some genes, it can be detected immediately by PCR, not gene sequencing.

In contrast to Omicron BA.2 due to the absence of these mutations, when PCR testing only identified the SARS-CoV-2 virus but not immediately as Omicron, it was assigned the name “stealth Omicron” “.

“Because there is no evidence that BA.2 is more dangerous than previous strains, people do not need to be too alarmed,” Dr. Level recommended.

Before the information “People infected with Omicrons are milder than those with Delta strains”, according to Dr. Level, the current patient groups are mainly infected with Omicron and have a much lower rate of severe progression than in the previous period.

This is not only because the Omicron strain has a lower rate of severe disease, but also because the population is more fully vaccinated and the treatment system has been better consolidated, helping to manage patients well from the very beginning. to limit the rate of severe progression.

Ms. Tran Thi Nhi Ha, Director of Hanoi Department of Health said, although “stealth” Omicron prevails, but the number of patients on the 2nd and 3rd floors tends to decrease, the rate of F0 hospitalization only accounts for 1-1.5%.

The Department of Health assigned the Hanoi Center for Disease Control (CDC) to be the focal point to coordinate with the Central Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology; units capable of sequencing genes for the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

Medical centers of districts, towns and related units organize testing, screening and gene sequencing of Covid-19 infections. From there, assess the level of infection with the Omicron strain in the city.

Hanoi “revived”

As of March 15, Vietnam restores tourism activities including domestic and international. Hanoi also developed a plan to reopen tourism activities under new normal conditions to ensure safety according to the guidance of the Central Government and the City.

On the same day, the City People’s Committee. Hanoi allows the Service establishments, restaurants, eateries and drinkers are allowed to operate normally (not regulated to close before 9pm daily), ensure epidemic prevention and control measures under the guidance of health authorities and related regulations.

In addition, the People’s Committees of districts, towns actively deploy and decide on the number of people participating in activities gathered indoors and outdoors to ensure safety for disease prevention and control.

From March 18, Hoan Kiem district also reopening of pedestrian street spaces locality.

The city recommends that people still need to strictly follow 5K regulations to prevent and control the epidemic. When there are symptoms of suspected disease (cough, fever, difficulty breathing, loss of taste…), people do not participate in activities at public places or crowded areas such as weddings, weddings questions, funerals… limit the number of participants at the same time.

Mr. Chu Xuan Dung, Vice Chairman of the City People’s Committee. Hanoi asked localities to develop plans and scenarios to respond to the Covid-19 epidemic in the new situation. He emphasized, reopening service activities, does not mean to let loose, but to control and manage effectively.

The “weapon” that helps F0 stay at home also get a certificate of recovery

Mr. Nguyen Viet Hung, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Information and Communications, said that the Department has coordinated with the Social Insurance and the Department of Health to build software to return results online, applying digital signatures.

Accordingly, the Hanoi Department of Information and Communications has developed a technology problem to reduce the load on commune and ward health stations in handling administrative procedures for F0 recognition and medical certificates. This is a solution in a total solution to support people and grassroots medical staff.

On March 25, Mr. Nguyen Tien Sy, Deputy Director of the Department of Information and Communications of Hanoi, said that the sample forms included: Test sheet, outpatient prescription, certificate of completion of treatment, certificate of leave. social insurance benefits have been completed by the software development unit.

On March 23 and 24, the Department of Health, the City Social Insurance, the Department of Information and Communications organized a training session for health workers to prepare for the implementation of phase 1 in the near future. .

A representative of the City Social Insurance said that last week, the unit continued to coordinate with related departments and agencies to handle more than 61,000 turns of workers infected with Covid-19 to settle sick leave.

Do not neglect, be subjective

Hanoi leaders affirmed that the city is well controlling the Covid-19 epidemic situation, continuing to direct and support people to handle procedures related to payment of social insurance for sick leave due to Covid-19 infection quickly. and favorable.

Emphasizing that the situation of the Covid-19 epidemic is still complicated, Hanoi requires localities to continue to well implement the epidemic prevention and control regulations of the Central and City. People are not subjective, neglectful; strictly follow the recommendations of the Ministry of Health, especially 100% mask must be worn.

Mr. Chu Xuan Dung, Vice Chairman of the City People’s Committee. Hanoi suggested localities continue to protect high-risk groups; strictly control the number of severe F0 cases and limit deaths. He also asked the Department of Health to urge localities to review cases that have not received the 3rd dose vaccine to complete the schedule as soon as possible.

“We continue to maintain, tighten, not to spread, lose control of the epidemic situation,” said Mr. Chu Xuan Dung.
