Speaking on national television, Deputy Prime Minister Vereshchuk said that civilians who want to leave the city of Mariupol will have to use private vehicles because Russian forces do not allow buses to move through the checkpoints. This information has not been independently verified by Reuters news agency. Earlier, on March 24, Deputy Prime Minister Vereshchuk said that an agreement had been reached on the establishment of seven humanitarian corridors.

The port city of Mariupol, located in southeastern Ukraine with about 400,000 inhabitants before the conflict broke out, is one of the regions that has suffered the most during the Russian military campaign. About 150,000 people are still said to be trapped and have difficulty accessing food, energy and heating.

Recently, on March 24, the United Nations said that nearly 3.7 million people have been evacuated from Ukraine since Russia launched a special military operation in the country. A total of more than 10 million Ukrainians have been evacuated from their homes, including nearly 6.5 million internally displaced people.
