The General Director’s family was threatened with debt collection even though he had never borrowed money

Threat by contract with “OTP signature”

In mid-March, Mr. Nguyen The Hung, General Director of a software company in Hai Phong, received many calls to “support” debt collection. The debt collector said that his company employees used payroll to borrow but did not pay.

When receiving a call from debt collection, Mr. Hung asked the administrative department to receive the information and notify the relevant staff for settlement.

“They sent me pictures of the employee, along with two soft copies of the pawn contract and the financial services contract. Both contracts are authenticated with OTP codes, without direct signatures of employees, “said Mr. Hung.

The “pawn contract” does not have the direct signature of the victim, only the OTP code.

Ms. H., an employee of Mr. Hung, said that she did not take out a loan but was bothered for nearly a year. When Ms. H. contacted the lender to clarify, they did not resolve the issue but forced to work with a debt collection company.

After that, Ms. H. and Mr. Hung received a series of different calls from debt collectors, forcing them to pay.

“There was a call that threatened if I could not collect my debt, they would upset all my relatives and friends and discredit the company. This person also read the name and personal information of each member of my family to threaten.

When I hung up, they texted me via Zalo, with information about their loved ones and family photos they’d gathered from social networks. They said if they couldn’t ask for money, they had to let the employees quit, or else they would mess up my contacts, “said Mr. Hung.

After that, everyone in his family received threatening and debt-collecting calls. He himself was also “phone spam, can’t do anything”.

“I ask the staff to work with the police and record all relevant information. I’ve heard of phone distractions a lot, but didn’t think I’d have to deal with these problems as well.”

Mr. Hung’s staff then complained to the police and had to contact the company on the contract to prove that he “did not take out a loan but was being asked for money”. Ms. H. was later cleared by the debt collector.

On the evening of the same day, Mr. Hung received an apology message from the debt collector. In the message, the harasser presented: “My side is claiming a debt from employee H. but the check is not due to H.’s loan. I’m sorry for disturbing you this morning.”

After spamming Hung’s phone, the debt collector apologized.

Although Anh Hung has solved it, he was worried about the security of personal information, because family information is private but easily revealed, bringing many dangers and troubles.

The mother was threatened with death and forced to pay “the debt that fell from the sky”

With the same debt “falling from the sky”, 4 months ago, Ms. Huong Giang (30 years old, from Thuong Tin, Hanoi) suddenly received a loan application of 3.5 million VND from a credit company. use R.

In the submitted documents, all information about the borrower matches that of Ms. Giang, just different from the date of issuance of the ID card and the date of birth. The account number receiving the disbursement is also not hers, only the beneficiary’s name is the same.

This file also contains information about Giang’s relatives and parents, including identification number and phone number.

“Initially they called, but I have small children so I usually keep it quiet and can’t hear it. Then they messaged on Zalo asking for money. I thought they were just stupid scams, I don’t mind if I don’t borrow money, because it has nothing to do with R. Until one day, they texted my parents threatening the health and lives of those in the community. family.

A series of messages threatening to “kill, stab the needle, close the coffin” were sent to Giang and her family.

I was scared, so I texted back to the debt collector that it was not related to the other account. But on March 22, they continued to call and text me and my parents to threaten to kill me, “said Giang.

Huong Giang then had to install cameras around the house to prevent danger.

“Now I don’t dare to answer the phone from an unknown number. Day and night, I have to check my parents’ phones to see what they texted. Having just given birth, being infected with Covid-19 again, meeting this situation makes the spirit unable to relax”, Giang helpless.

Fearing that someone would come to her house, Ms. Giang went to the commune police station to report. She also has to follow the instructions of the debt collector, go to the bank to verify the disbursement account number, and prove that she does not have a loan.

“I have been verified by the bank that I only have one account, which is not the same as the account where the debt is disbursed. Thought it was over, but the debt collector continued to ask me for a statement of some other accounts that I was not related to. The long-standing incident could not be completely resolved, causing my life to be turned upside down, “said Giang.

Ms. Giang had to go to the bank to certify that she only had 1 account, but the debt collector continued to bother.

On the morning of March 25, PV contacted the lender R., the representative said that now it is no longer processing Ms. Giang’s application but turning to a third party to recover it. If you have any questions about debt collection, you should contact the Property Management and Exploitation Company.

The property management and exploitation company said that Ms. Giang’s loan application was “sold” by R. to this company because it could not be collected.

“Ms. Giang currently owes 3,346,500 VND. We have a responsibility to claim. In the loan application, in addition to the ID card, there is also a photo of Giang. If Ms. Giang’s personal information is stolen, she must provide a bank account statement to prove it. In case Ms. Giang really does not borrow, we will delete the application from the system”, the representative said.

Then, a strange Zalo account, actively talked and said that the victim had been disbursed by a financial company. Some time later, the impostor asks the victim to pay the other “borrowed” money with exorbitant interest rates.

Another scam is the “wrong return” support. Bad guys will monitor social networks, look for people who post on Facebook, Zalo … notice that they have received money by “mistakenly transferred” to the account, and are in need of money back.

Leaked personal information makes bad guys take advantage

Discussing the case of “not taking a loan, you also get a debt”, lawyer Tran Tuan Anh, Minh Bach Law Firm, said that the most important reason leading to this situation is information security. It is because information is leaked and sold, making people with bad intentions take advantage of it to perform fraudulent acts and appropriate property.

Even many bad guys use other people’s personal information to falsely declare records, falsify records to borrow money from apps or financial companies, making the “owner” responsible for debt repayment.
