The new Mazda 6 will not have the equipment that many customers expect

The newly confirmed Mazda 6 will not have a rear-wheel drive system as many previously speculated.

Last year, Mazda announced it would launch a series of new products, based on a new architecture with a vertically-placed Skyactiv engine and rear-wheel drive.

The first of these was the CX-60, which was released and was followed by the CX-70, CX-80 and CX-90. However, it seems that this powertrain will only be available to SUVs and sedans will not be.

According to Joachim Kunz, development and engineering director of Mazda Europe, previous rumors about a new Mazda 6 with a vertical-six engine and rear-wheel drive will not materialize. This is considered sad news for many people who are expecting the new Mazda 6 to have rear-wheel drive as previously reported.

“It would be nice to have a vertically mounted six-cylinder and rear-wheel drive for the all-new Mazda 6 or a large sports coupe.

We want this, but at the moment the most important thing is to focus on SUVs. This SUV trend is growing and getting even stronger with the Mazda brand. Those are the best-selling cars,” Kunz told Autocar magazine, quoted by the Australian publication Drive.

Mazda CX-60 is Mazda’s most powerful SUV

The first to be built on Mazda’s Skyactiv Multi-Solution Scalable Architecture, the CX-60 also features the brand’s first plug-in hybrid powertrain. Power supply for the car includes a 2.5 liter naturally aspirated petrol engine Skyactiv-G 192 PS / 261 Nm and an electric motor 136 PS / 250 Nm, accompanied by an 8-speed automatic transmission. Total power of Mazda CX- 60 achieves 327 PS (about 324 hp), making it Mazda’s most powerful SUV. In addition, the model also has its own electric mode with a speed of less than 100 km / h with a maximum distance of 63 km.
