US President visits Poland amid escalating tensions in Ukraine

US President Joe Biden continues his trip Europe tour. On March 25, Mr. Joe Biden arrived in Poland, starting a two-day visit to the country.

Mr. Biden had a meeting with US soldiers and representatives of a number of NGOs that are providing support evacuees from Ukraine in the city of Rzeszow in southeastern Poland, about 80 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.

After Rzeszow, Mr. Biden went to the Polish capital Warsaw and is expected to have a private meeting with Polish President Andrzej Duda on March 26.

At this meeting, the two leaders will discuss humanitarian issues, in the context of conflict between Russia and Ukraine has not cooled down yet.

For its part, Poland hopes that the visit of US President Joe Biden will strengthen the security issue that the US has committed to.

Poland is a member of the European Union (EU) and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). The country has also received more than 2 million evacuees from Ukraine, providing financial and weapons support to the neighboring country.

The US President’s two-day visit began on March 25 after a series of summits on Ukraine in Brussels, Belgium. The US has accepted to share difficulties and support 100,000 refugees from Ukraine. According to reports, Poland has now received more than 2.2 million evacuees from Ukraine, out of a total of about 3.7 million who have poured across the border areas in Central Europe in the past month. Some other residents have not yet escaped from the war zone Mariupol, eastern Ukraine.

Poland is the final stop on President Joe Biden’s European tour this week with the US commitment to protect NATO members, especially Poland.

Earlier, also on March 25, National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said that there are currently about 10,500 US troops stationed in Poland.
