Speaking to reporters during a trip with US President Joe Biden to Poland, Mr. Sullivan said “there are still some problems. We are still looking for a diplomatic solution to get Iran’s nuclear program back on track. If diplomacy fails, of course, we will work closely with our international partners to increase pressure on Iran.”

Earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian on March 24 stated that the vital issue related to the lifting of sanctions against Iran has not been completely resolved. According to him, “if the US is determined, the nuclear agreement will be signed quickly.”

Iran’s foreign minister also said that Russia had informed Tehran that it would support the nuclear deal if signed.

The European Union (EU) coordinator for nuclear negotiations with Iran, Enrique Mora, will travel to Tehran on March 26 to close the gap on restoring the 2015 nuclear deal.

This agreement was signed by Iran with the P5+1 Group in 2015 but stalled after the administration under US President Donald Trump unilaterally withdrew in May 2018 and re-imposed sanctions on Iran. led the country to abandon some of its nuclear commitments. After the US had a new administration, Iran and P5+1 started negotiations on restoring the JCPOA from April 2021 but so far have not come to a final agreement despite having gone through 8 rounds of negotiations.
