Acne, dark skin after recovering from Covid-19 is worrisome?

After recovering from Covid-19 for nearly a week, Minh Phuong (23 years old, Cau Giay, Hanoi) began to have inflammatory acne skin, especially in the forehead and cheeks.

The acne spots are getting thicker and thicker on the face, making Phuong very confused and worried. She has tried several acne creams but has not seen any improvement in her skin.

“In the past, I rarely had acne, if any, it was just a few small dots. Now this facial skin is really very guilty, I don’t know how to handle it”, Phuong confided.

Ngoc Anh (27 years old, Nam Tu Liem, Hanoi) is also experiencing “unprecedented bad skin” after recovering from Covid-19 for a few days. She shared, the current skin is darkened, lumpy and pours a lot of oil, dense hidden acne. Ngoc Anh’s back and shoulders also appeared many inflammatory acne. The young girl said that she is trying to use a type of collagen introduced by her friend, combined with vitamin C and cream for the whole face and body to improve this condition.

In fact, not only Minh Phuong and Ngoc Anh, on beauty groups, many young people also confided that they are experiencing similar conditions after contracting Covid-19. Most of the pimples are on the face and back; itchy rash, dark skin, lots of oil, … Many people think that this is one of the consequences that Covid-19 disease and post-Covid-19 causes.

However, according to dermatologists, the bad skin condition, acne, darkening is not caused by Covid-19 or after Covid-19.

Exchange with VietNamNet, Dermatologist Tran Duc Huynh, a member of the Group of Military Medical Doctors who support F0 care and treatment at home, said that when suffering from Covid-19 and having to be isolated and treated for a while, many people are prone to psychological stress. or the state of insomnia, sleep late, irregular activities. These are factors that can affect skin texture, hormones, cause skin problems like acne, dark spots.

In addition, some F0 bought themselves medicines of unknown origin and ingredients; drugs that are “advised to be good” and used indiscriminately, without a prescription. This can lead to elevated liver enzymes and liver damage.

In fact, Dr. Huynh has received and examined many patients after recovering from Covid-19. Up to 10-20% when the test detects a very high increase in liver enzymes, it is caused by taking drugs not according to instructions.

“Therapeutic drugs, if used indiscriminately like that, can easily affect the liver and kidneys. They can be understood as a general organ, like a “refinery” to help remove toxins and waste. If the liver or kidney is damaged, it will affect the skin, causing acne, rash, …”, Dr. Huynh informed.

The doctor said that if “bad skin” is caused by stress factors and insomnia, you can gradually improve by returning to a regular activity, keeping your mind relaxed, and reducing stress; Combine skin care methods as usual. However, if your skin is acne-prone due to liver toxicity, you need to go to a medical facility for an early examination for timely advice and treatment.

In case of severe poisoning, liver enzymes increase 4-5 times normal, the doctor will prescribe liver detoxification, possibly infusion of antidote for the liver. In milder cases, liver enzymes are only slightly increased, you can take a normal liver tonic orally.

The doctor recommends that, when the skin appears abnormal after the Covid-19 treatment period such as acne, rash, in addition to observing external signs, you should “listen” to your body. If “bad skin” combines prolonged fatigue, loss of appetite, sluggishness… you may be at risk of liver damage, need medical advice. But if the body is still healthy, eat and sleep. Well, maybe you are only affected by stress, insomnia.

According to Dr. Huynh, in order to keep the skin healthy, when you have Covid-19, you need to stay calm and comfortable; Do not buy or use drugs indiscriminately but should consult and prescribe doctors. The use of functional foods, vitamins also needs to pay attention to choosing products of clear origin, ensuring quality and using the correct dosage as directed.

In addition, should sleep on time, live in moderation, eat enough nutrients, eat a lot of vegetables and fruits, drink a lot of water, avoid harmful foods that have harmful effects. health. You should also exercise regularly to improve health.

Agreeing on the idea that “blemished, dark skin is not related to Covid-19 or post-Covid-19”, said Doctor Hoang Van Tam, Deputy Head of the Day Inpatient Department, Central Hospital of Dermatology. Several factors can lead to this condition.

Firstly, it may be due to the patient thinking too much, stressing when sick, sleeping less, insomnia. Secondly, the bathing and facial care are not done thoughtfully and thoroughly. These factors can trigger acne and make it worse. “These are all very common causes in life, not only when infected with Covid-19,” the doctor confirmed.

According to Dr. Tam, the fact that skin problems are only caused by stress, insomnia, etc. are not too serious. Patients just need to change their lifestyle to be more scientific, take care of their skin properly, and the skin will gradually return to normal.
