So what is the ultimate high school for?

Yu Hongtao (34 years old) graduated with a bachelor’s degree, then earned a master’s degree from Huazhong Normal University – one of the most prestigious schools in China.

After two failed startups, in October 2020, Yu opened a small stall selling grilled chicken feet for a living at Urumqi market. Customers and traders at the market still call him “the most educated stall owner”.

“Before, I thought, going to school for nearly 30 years without achieving anything, it’s a shame. But now I see, as long as I have a job and try to do it well, there is no problem. nothing”Yu said.

Seeing that everyone around him thinks that he has a good education background and deserves a higher position, Yu shared that he opened a grilled chicken leg stall because of the pressure of life and the practical needs of his family. The large number of customers helps this man improve his income significantly. The comfortable life makes Yu quite satisfied when she earns a temporary “good” amount compared to most other office jobs.

Master Yu opened a small stall selling grilled chicken feet for a living at Urumqi Market.

Yu’s story then caused mixed opinions across social networking sites. In addition to some blunt critical comments, many people expressed regret about Yu’s university degree, so they said less: “His work is respectable but should not be encouraged.” Many questions have also been raised, what is the ultimate goal of higher education, to become a seller of grilled chicken feet at the market.

However, the majority of opinions believe that high or low qualifications do not determine anyone’s career. As long as it’s honest work, there’s nothing wrong with it.

Yu Hongtao is not the only one who has wasted years and years of books to choose his own path instead of trying to become a civil servant or work for a big company. Liu Xiuxiang’s story is an example.

Rejecting all offers of cooperation from all major corporations, Liu did not mind the generous salary and decided to work as a teacher in the poor countryside of Wangmo district, Guizhou city.

Every time he receives a salary, in addition to spending a living expenses and medical treatment for his mother, he also accumulates and uses the remaining money to collect “funds” of scholarships for students with difficult circumstances.

After 9 years of working, Liu still accepts to live in a dormitory for teachers. Life in poverty is quite difficult, but not because of that, this man is discouraged. When asked why he tormented himself so much, Liu replied: “The purpose of my higher education is not to help me get out of poverty, but to help my hometown get out of poverty.”

With his efforts, 1,900 students in the poor district of Vong Mo continued to go to school, 50 dropouts returned to class, and the university pass rate also increased from 12% to 63%. In 2018, Liu was selected as China’s elite teacher. This great-willed teacher is admired by many people because of his rare personality and benevolence.
